at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue.

Welcome from our mayor "Imagine what Kaua'i would be like if we were able to grow most of our own food!!! Although this idea may seem far-fetched to some, I believe that if we all do our part to revitalize the agricultural industry on the Garden Isle, we would be well on our way toward food independence.

I think we're actually seeing some very positive signs indicating that we are moving in this direction. For one thing, attendance at the Farmers' Markets has increased tremendously. Now there's one on the island every day of the week so we can easily get fresh fruits and vegetables that are grown right here on Kaua'i. Our grocery stores are carrying more locally grown food, too. Look for the "Kaua'i Grown" signage at participating stores. And our restaurants also have delicious fresh offerings of local beef, pork, seafood and produce on their menus.

Even our young people are part of this movement with hands-on experience in their school gardens or as members of 4-H Clubs. And our farmers themselves have developed a strategic plan that will help to guide all of us with "Farming Our Future."

Let's support local agriculture during the Farm Fair and throughout the year!"
